Amnesty International Brings Leader to Peterborough

Amnesty International (AI) Group 46 in Peterborough, which has worked for human rights around the world since 1983, has announced its annual dinner for Feb. 24, 2019.

“We are especially pleased to have joining us the Secretary General of AI Canada, Alex Neve, of Ottawa, a respected voice internationally in all areas of human rights,” said Janet Bradley,coordinator of the local chapter.

The dinner will be held at St John’s Guild Hall and feature a presentation by Neve and stories about the effectiveness of Amnesty campaigns, such as releases from prison of prisoners of conscience.  Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $40 ($25 for students and unwaged) and are available from members, and at Mark Jokinen’s Bookstore and at the YWCA.

“Peterborough has supported this work very powerfully over the years,” said Bradley, “and this is our chance to hear the bad and the good news about the situation for people around the world.”
