Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan: Supporting Education of Afghan Women and Children

Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan ( is a member-based, not-for-profit organization founded in 1996 with 13 volunteer chapters across Canada.

It is a non-religious, non-political, federally registered charity in Canada whose goals are to advance education and educational opportunities for Afghan women and their families and to educate Canadians about human rights in Afghanistan. Donor-funded projects fall within two main field program areas: (1) community libraries and literacy programs; and (2) investments in public education. CW4WAfghan’s strives to raise a minimum of $700,000 per annum to meet its program funding objectives

Each Spring, the Peterborough Chapter organizes the annual Red Pashmina Walk. This is an easy family friendly walk around East City in Peterborough to raise funds. Following the walk, it gathers for refreshments and information about the newest projects supported by CW4WAfghan. Each fall, a fund-raising dinner is held with guest speakers. Throughout the year, Afghan crafts, hand-made by women in Afghanistan, can be bought through the chapter.

The Peterborough Chapter of CW4WAfghan meets monthly to plan events. If you are interested in joining, please email or call Daphne at 705 656-3820. It is always delighted to have a new face at meetings. Check the Facebook page at CW4WAfghan-Peterborough Chapter.
